In 1737 people seeking Religious Freedom came to a “New World”. Among these Pilgrims were the Wetzels.
Traveling across the stormy waters of the Atlantic Ocean, aboard the ‘Charming Nancy’ (a ship owned by Benedict Arnold) , on October 8th that year they landed and settled in the colony of Pennsylvania.
Among the descendants of these Religious Pilgrims was Warren Augustus Wetzel, (Born September 8, 1842) a man with a pioneer spirit who was no stranger to hardships.
After the end of the American Civil War in 1865; Warren and his family moved from their home in Spring Place, Georgia to present day Comanche County Texas in an Oxen drawn covered wagon. A trip that, under ideal circumstances, would take over 3 months! They settled in Comanche County, Texas in December of 1872. The Wetzels, along with the Sligers and McDonalds, were some of the earliest settlers of the Comanche County area.
Warren later moved from Comanche County, Texas to Ogburn, Wood County, Texas in 1917 where he lived until his death in 1929.This site is dedicated to the family history of Warren Augustus Wetzel. ~ Robert Charles (R.C.) Wetzel
